Community schools

The Moto in the Community Trust is a grant-making charity aimed at making a difference to the communities we are part of.  We enjoy granting funds out into our communities via our local community partner scheme.

We also enjoy a fantastic relationship with schools in our communities.

Adopted Schools

Part of our objectives is to reach out into the community and add as much value as we can.  Back in 2005 when our charity was launched each Moto location was given the opportunity to adopt a local school.

This partnership opportunity has made it possible for Moto to focus their support on building strong community links with one school – and in some cases several schools.  The schools that form part of our ‘Adopt a School’ programme are weaved into our community activities, which include our staff volunteering programme ‘making a difference’.  Moto staff are given the opportunity to volunteer – for instance as reading buddies or helping out with a particular project – in their adopted schools.  Schools are invited to site to help with fundraising activities, such as manning a tombola table on an event day or singing carols at Christmas.

Moto sites have been busy building strong bonds with their adopted schools.  Following an extensive survey carried out with each head teacher in 2010, the Trust has been able to identify opportunities to provide support and assistance.  Each Moto site has their own calendar of fundraising events tailored to raising funds for their local community partner and providing funds to help resource their adopted schools.

Some of the projects the Trust has funded include:

  • Funding and planting sensory gardens
  • Funding musical instruments allowing more children access to learn a musical instrument
  • Improving school libraries with books to encourage children to be inspired by books
  • Funding and supporting new sports equipment
  • Setting competitions and supporting initiatives that are linked to the education of environmental topics, including recycling and creative campaigns

Adopted School – Book Programme

Since 2006 we have pledged over 123,000 books into our adopted schools nationwide.  We are very proud of this very valuable contribution to our schools.  We identified a real need to assist schools struggling to fund adequate resources for their literacy schemes and school libraries.  Our campaign is supported by the generosity of our supporters and visitors to Moto service areas.

We are very proud to partner with OXFORD UNIVERSITY PRESS for our book programme.  Oxford University Press has supported our programme from the beginning and we are extremely grateful for their help in making this fantastic project possible.

Our special thanks also goes to Barrington Stoke and The Book People for their support for this campaign.

Supporting school communities overseas

In 2010 and 2011 the Trust also supported children in Kosovo with our “Getting Kosovo back on its feet” project.

The Trust partnered with a fantastic volunteer led charity – Hope and Aid Direct – who take aid directly to homes and families that need it most in Kosovo.   Moto people from around the UK put together stationery resources to create a ‘school in a box’ resource and the Moto volunteers assisted in delivering as part of our volunteering programme.

Moto people also collected shoes to send to Kosovo as part of our partnership activity with Hope and Aid Direct.
